Let’s talk about Mental Health. I talk about this topic in my guest sessions in podcasts here.
It is a large topic encompassing the fields of psychology, medicine, human kinetics, yoga therapy and social studies.
Let’s park clinical mental health issues. That is a topic for the medical specialists only.
Let’s talk about how we feel when we are down. Or afraid.
We reach for the nearest Netflix movie, right?
Pile of popcorn, ice cream, chocolate and drink of choice in hand, we plop ourselves in front of a screen, in the hopes that they will change our mood for us, by showing us eye candy.
Let’s take our eternal obsession with Mr. Darcy!
Falling into a cozy evening with your favorite snacks and Netflix’s comforting glow, have you ever found yourself drawn to characters like Mr. Darcy, hoping they’d lift your spirits? Dive into a heartwarming discussion on the simple pleasures that boost our mood and contribute to our mental well-being. Let’s explore together how these iconic characters have become our go-to for a touch of joy and a sprinkle of romance in our lives. What makes Mr. Darcy so irresistible when we’re seeking an emotional lift?
It just makes us feel good. We can’t help it. Love that blossoms from knowing someone.
That’s what everyone wants. They don’t want the instant “at first sight” type. The guy has to understand us. And want us to be that friend that we want. Then the romance is a corollary of that. Not the first thing and that makes us hunger for that, which is so rare.
That’s why Mr. Darcy is a favorite.
The second type of obsession is the polite, popular, athletic and all-round great high school type. Clean, respectful, and how rare are those qualities. But we want it anyway and that’s why we are obsessed with Jenny Han’s To All the Boys series. Who does not want Peter Kavinsky to be in their life? This guy runs to you when you need him, has great manners, will probably buy you an appropriate gift on their way over to make you feel better. Win/Win and the looks don’t hurt either.
WE all need a Peter Kavinsky in our lives! Polite, dedicated, fun to be with, a great conversationalist and athletic. Can you get any better?
Let’s take a look at those who have written about the rom/com and mental health connection…again notice this is a non-clinical mental health issue.
